The Unattainable One…

Standard

Everyone has a beer that they remember fondly and cannot get where they live. It always seemed odd to me that you can’t get any beer you want anywhere you want, but that is another post.  Anyway, last summer, I visited a friend of mine that lives in Cincinnati. She introduced me to the Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. I was skeptical at first– I am not a fan of bourbon– but found that I greatly enjoyed the slightly whiskey flavor infused into the beer by its time aged in old bourbon barrels.  The nose on this beer is also spectacular, just like a fine  bourbon. I have tried a bunch of the other ones now on the market (I guess lots of others enjoyed this idea too) but the memory of this particular ale still lingers with me and the others just don’t compare.  I think the Brrbon Ale from Widmer Brothers comes closest to the taste I remember but somehow it’s still not there.

I was just talking with the guys at the Naples Beach Brewery and they are thinking of doing a bourbon aged beer so maybe they can get it right : ) And if anyone in the areas where you can purchase this beer would like to send me a six-pack, I would be eternally grateful (yeah, I know it’s better on draft)!

Sorry for the not great picture but remember the blog didn’t exist back then. I did think highly enough of this beer to take its picture, though.
