The Concept Behind This Blog

Standard

I thought it was important to begin this blog with a little bit of history about how it came to be. This blog has been in the making for the past year and a half.  During several trips to areas known for their craft beers like Oregon and Vermont,  I realized there were very few women in many of the craft breweries I visited.  My husband, Dave, suggested that there was a need for a woman’s perspective on craft brews and beer in general. Traditionally, women have gravitated to softer beers and those brewed with fruity flavors. However, times are a changing and more and more women are learning that there is nothing better than a good beer with a lot of hops.  The craft beer market is growing by leaps and bounds and women need to let brewers know that they too can appreciate a good beer.

On a trip last year to the DC area, a friend of mine took me to several breweries and decided that we need to document each in pictures. You will see that as I catch you, the reader, up on this last year, the photo documentation gets better and better.  My friend insisted that I do a sampler at each brewery we visited with a before and after shot of each. From then on it became a necessity to take those pictures even when I wasn’t with her. I have gotten a few odd looks from servers and bartenders as they tried to take away the empty glasses but were reprimanded, as the picture was not complete.

So with this blog, I will attempt to catch you up on some of my beer travels throughout the last year and get you to the present. Along the way, I hope to share some insights into the places, people, and, most of all, the brews.  As we move closer to the present, I will share with you fresh insights on the most recent tastings.  This blog will be hopefully part travelogue and part tasting notes.  Although the primary focus will be on beer, we might visit a winery or a distillery or ……. who knows?

Raise a frosty one… and cheers on our voyage into the world of beer!

Enjoy a frosty one with me on our voyage into the world of beer!
